We are going to deep dive into AKI and organ crosstalk today. Session will start from now until 12 o'clock. So what we are going to discuss or have fun together is learning physiological and biochemical cross interaction between kidney and multiple organs. Of course, for the sake of time, we couldn't cover every single organ or system kidneys can have crosstalk with, but we are going to talk about most important ones and the big ones. We are five of us here, and we are going to have a very interactive session. We are going to learn from you equally, so please feel free to give us feedback, discuss, pose questions, pause us when you need. With the time, it's a 40-minute procession. I'll go through the agenda. So I am Anshul Kapoor from Cleveland Clinic. I'm Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of Medical Liver Intensive Unit, Associate Director of Office of Interprofessional Learning. My research interests are acute liver failure, acute kidney injury, point-of-care ultrasound, simulation, leadership development, and interprofessional education. We have Kinush Kashani. You know him very well. He's a Professor of Medicine and Assistant Professor of Medical Education, consultant in Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care at Mayo Clinic Rochester. His research is focused on fields of AKI, acid-base and electrolyte abnormalities, renal replacement therapies, fluid management, simulation, ultrasonography, artificial intelligence, digital health, and education. Gretchen, I didn't leave her alone on the slide. It's just for fun because we are five. She's a clinical pharmacist specialist practicing in medical ICU at Cleveland Clinic. She received her bachelor's in pharmaceutical science and doctor of pharmacy at University of Toledo. She completed two years of postgraduate residency training at Cleveland Clinic and is board certified in critical care. Her clinical research includes hemodynamics, septic shock, vasoactive agents, and she has published numerous papers. You will see her talking in another session on pressers tomorrow. We have Javier Naira. He's Associate Professor and Endowed Professor. He is Co-Director of Critical Care Nephrology Program at UAB. He's Associate Director of UAB Nephrology Research and Training Center and is Co-Director of Clinical and Development Course of UAB. Sorry, it's a big name for acute kidney injury research. He graduated from Peru and completed postgraduate training in Henry Ford Hospital in Nephrology and Clinical Research at UT Western. He has served as Director of Critical Care Nephrology at University of Kentucky. Now he moved on to UAB. His areas of clinical research includes critical care nephrology, acute kidney injury, renal replacement therapies, big data analysis, and digital health applications. We have Pranav Garimala, who is Associate Professor and a Nephrologist and Epidemiologist at UC San Diego. He serves as Director of Acute Dialysis Services and Polycystic Kidney Disease at Center of Excellence at UC San Diego. His research interests are in the field of novel kidney biomarkers for diagnosis and prognosis of kidney injury. I'm fortunate to be here with all of these great speakers. All of the speakers are well known in their field, except me. I'm just in a learning stage. This is the agenda for today. So we will start off with Javier about acute kidney injury in ICU. All of these sessions are broken down into 40-minute sessions. Hopefully, we'll have a little time for questions. If not, we have a 40-minute panel discussion towards the end, which will be a fun activity where we will bring all the concepts together and we'll have a lot of questions. That would be your session, where the audience will be actually leading that session. Without delay, we'll start with acute kidney injury in the ICU.
Video Summary
The video discusses AKI and organ crosstalk, focusing on the physiological and biochemical interactions between the kidneys and multiple organs. The session features five experts from institutions like Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, and UC San Diego, covering topics such as acute kidney injury, acid-base abnormalities, and renal replacement therapies. Each session is 40 minutes long, with interactive elements for feedback and questions. The agenda includes talks on AKI in the ICU, followed by a panel discussion. The audience will have the opportunity to lead discussions and ask questions in the engaging session.
