With the increased acuity and aging of the critical care population and the multiple comorbidities associated with specialty conditions, the incidence of catastrophic wounds has significantly increased. Many of these wounds may be preventable and managed earlier. This session will highlight the unique situations in which these wounds develop—whether they are caused by pressure ulcers, unique infectious diseases, pharmaceutical reactions, or oncologic conditions—how critical care professionals can identify their causes, and ways to identify and manage them to successful outcomes.
