Ivana Kapan, a Pediatric Critical Care Fellow at Mount Sinai Kravis Children's Hospital, presented her research project on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) as a bridge to palliation in single ventricle physiology. ECMO is used as a mechanical support for patients with heart defects. The study analyzed data from the ELSO registry and found that 54% of patients who required ECMO pre-palliation died before hospital discharge.
