Pdf Summary
Dengue is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes. It can present in various forms including dengue, dengue hemorrhagic fever, and dengue shock syndrome. Symptoms of dengue include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, and hemorrhagic manifestations. Dengue hemorrhagic fever is characterized by fever, hemorrhagic manifestations, thrombocytopenia, and increased vascular permeability. Dengue shock syndrome is the most severe form and is diagnosed when all four criteria are met: fever, hemorrhagic manifestations, thrombocytopenia, and circulatory failure. Treatment for dengue focuses on symptom relief, such as reducing fever and pain, and hydration. For patients with alarming signs, hospitalization and close monitoring of laboratory data, hydration status, and hemodynamic stability are necessary. Patients with compensated shock should be admitted to an ICU and receive constant vigilance and active treatment to maintain hemodynamic stability. Patients with hypotensive shock require close monitoring and further assessments for organ failure. Upon discharge, relief of symptoms, maintenance of fluid balance, fever resolution, and hemodynamic stability are important considerations. Early recognition of shock status is crucial for prompt treatment. Management includes the use of crystalloids and colloids, while corticosteroids and 0.45% saline solution should be avoided. In summary, this resource provides information on the identification, differentiation, and treatment of dengue and its various clinical presentations.
