Pdf Summary
Viral Encephalitis is the inflammation of the brain tissue that can be caused by viral infections. It is often characterized by fever, altered consciousness, personality changes, and seizures. The most common cause of viral encephalitis is the herpes simplex virus. Other viruses that can cause encephalitis include arboviruses such as eastern equine encephalitis and West Nile virus. Tick-borne encephalitis is common in Europe, Asia, and Russia. The clinical presentation of viral encephalitis includes flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, and muscle aches. Children and the elderly are particularly vulnerable to the complications of viral encephalitis. Diagnostic tests include blood tests, a head CT scan, EEG, and a lumbar puncture. The treatment of viral encephalitis involves early diagnosis, supportive care, and antiviral medications in some cases. Complications of viral encephalitis can include long-term neurological damage, language disorders, blindness, personality changes, epilepsy, cognitive deficits, and amnesia. Prevention strategies for viral encephalitis include avoiding mosquito and tick bites, using insect repellents, and practicing good hygiene. Early identification and prompt treatment are crucial for preventing further damage to the central nervous system.
