Asset Caption
The internet provides the public with information about many different topics, including the etiology of common symptoms and possible medical diagnoses. Often patients and families feel that they are knowledgeable about a disease or management based on internet searching and not on information that is grounded in medical science. As healthcare professionals, it is sometimes difficult to reason with family members who have been misled by information from nonscientific, non-peer-reviewed sources. We have an obligation to provide our patients with scientifically sound, critically reviewed information.
