Besides Discovery, SCCM awards SCCM-Weil Research Grants for single-institution studies.<br /><br />Gannon's pilot study involves a three-phase VV ECMO weaning protocol: safety screening, non-ECMO respiratory support titration, and a VV ECMO-free trial group. Patients who pass the failure criteria tests undergo blood flow reduction and assessment steps to determine eligibility for decannulation. The study plans to include 60 patients and aims to develop a bedside protocol to safely expedite VV ECMO weaning, recognizing its significant use during the H1N1 and COVID-19 pandemics for severe respiratory distress cases, despite its associated complications.<br /><br />SCCM also offers educational resources, such as the Fundamental Critical Care Support: Surgical course, covering critical care topics like tracheostomy emergencies and severe pancreatitis, to equip non-surgical professionals with essential critical care knowledge.
