"This article was first published in the Summer 2024 issue of Critical Connections.

An SCCM task force used an extensive approach to develop the most comprehensive and up-to-date criteria for defining sepsis and septic shock in children. The Phoenix Sepsis Score, published in JAMA in February 2024, was based on evidence from an international survey, a systematic review and meta-analysis, and a newly developed organ dysfunction score based on more than 3 million electronic health record encounters from 10 sites on 4 continents.

Critical Connections, the critical care industry’s only newsmagazine, provides information on cutting-edge topics in critical care useful to the entire multiprofessional team."
