Video Summary

A retrospective study was conducted on the use of hydrocortisone, ascorbic acid, and thiamine (HAT) therapy in pediatric septic shock. The study compared three groups: untreated controls, hydrocortisone-only patients, and HAT therapy patients. The primary outcome was 30-day mortality, and the secondary outcomes were 90-day mortality, vasoactive ionotrope free days at 30 days, and hospital-free days at 30 days. The results showed that HAT therapy patients had significantly lower 30-day and 90-day mortality rates compared to both untreated controls and hydrocortisone-only patients. However, there were no significant differences in vasoactive ionotrope-free days or hospital-free days between the groups. The study concluded that children with septic shock treated with HAT had a significant decrease in mortality, primarily due to reduced early deaths. The study recommends early administration of HAT therapy and further validation of these findings.
