Fundamental Critical Care Support, 6th Edition
Target Audience
The FCCS Course is designed to prepare healthcare providers caring for unstable, critically ill or injured patients to disseminate the basic critical care concepts to all professionals who may be called upon to care for the critically ill.
Learning Objectives
• Prioritize assessment needs for the critically ill patient.
• Select appropriate diagnostic tests.
• Identify and respond to significant changes in the unstable patient.
• Recognize and initiate management of acute life-threatening conditions.
• Determine the need for expert consultation and/or patient transfer, and prepare the practitioner for optimally accomplishing transfer.

Type of Activity
This activity will focus on increasing knowledge of the first 24 hours of care and applying this knowledge to practice settings.

Credit Hours

Successful completion of this continuing medical education (CME) activity, which includes participation and a passing score of 70% (three attempts) on the posttest and completion of the overall evaluation, enables the participant to earn up to 6.5 credit hours.

Physicians: Accreditation Statement: The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation Statement: SCCM designates this online educational activity for a maximum of 6.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credits™. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that he/she actually spent in the educational activity.

Nurses: This program has been approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing (No. 8181), for up to 6.5 contact hours.

Pharmacists: The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. This course provides up to 6.5 contact hours of continuing education credit (0236-0000-17-300-H01-P). SCCM reports to a continuing pharmacy education (CPE) tracking service, CPE Monitor, that will authenticate and store data for completed CPE units received by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. The tracking system will make CPE data for each participant available to the state boards of pharmacy where the participant is licensed or registered. After CPE units are processed by ACPE and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians will be able to log in to a comprehensive electronic profile to access information about their completed CPE.

Respiratory Therapists: The Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (#148740000) has been approved by the American Association for Respiratory Care for up to 6 continuing education contact hours for respiratory therapists.

Participation in, or completion of, this course does not confer any credential, nor does it satisfy any board certification requirement apart from CME if offered for it. This course is not intended to replace, override, or conflict with any licensing or credentialing requirements.
