Smart Event/Self-Directed Educational Formats

The Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) offers this course in two formats. The smart event allows the learner to combine the in person and online learning option. The self-directed course format allows the learner to only participate in the online learning. Both options provide the experience that is convenient for healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives
  • Discuss relevant clinical topics and updates to increase knowledge base in critical care echocardiography
  • Assess the scientific foundations and literature evidence for using echocardiography in critically ill patients
  • Apply effective learning approaches, including case-based discussion and question review, to implement echocardiography in the critical care setting
Target Audience

This continuing education activity is intended to meet the needs of intensivists, anesthesiologists, cardiologists, emergency physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, hospitalists and all other providers who care for patients in any setting in which critical care is provided.

Type of Activity

This activity will provide highly skilled experts the ability to synthesize the existing literature in the field to apply concepts in practice.

SCCM promotes activities that encourage the highest quality in education that will enhance knowledge, competence or performance in critical care practice. This activity will meet the following competencies:

Credit Hours

Successful completion of this continuing medical education (CME) activity, which includes participation and a passing score of 70% (three attempts) on the posttest and completion of the overall evaluation, enables the participant to earn up to 24.5 credits hours. 

Physicians:

Accreditation Statement: The Society of Critical Care Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Designation Statement: The Society of Critical Care Medicine designates this enduring educational activity for a maximum of 24.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credit™. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit that they actually spent in the educational activity.

Nurses:
The Advanced Critical Care Ultrasound activity has been approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider No. 8181, for up to 24.5 contact hours.

Physician Assistants:
AAPA accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME or a recognized state medical society. Physician Assistants may receive a maximum of 24.5 Category 1 credits for completing this activity.

Maintenance of Certification
Successful completion of this continuing medical education (CME) activity, which includes participation and passing score of 70% in the evaluation component/posttest, enables the participant to earn up to 24.5 medical knowledge maintenance of certification (MOC) points in the American Board of Internal Medicine, American Board of Anesthesia, and American Board of Surgery MOC programs. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity.
